Also, probably a good time to remind everyone to bring clean copies of their top 20.

last night a dj...
In the past, we've just gone with a freeform free-for-all when deciding what gets played at the party. Any interest in blocking out time for each of us? Either 30 min or 1 hour slots? I also have a bleary recollection of bringing this idea up during the Gloggfest going so far as to offer a slot to an outsider (Jeffrey). I still think the idea works, each person has the "decks" so to speak for a time and can focus on playing stuff that they want to be considered for the comp. If we do 2 x 30 minutes then this focus on compilation songs could be shifted to the 2nd block with the first block being more freeform? In the end its an idea to give everyone a crack at highlighting their favs from the year, thoughts?

What time are we starting?
I like this idea. My only concern is time. Especially since we're not compiling the master list ahead of time.
How many people/slots are we talking about here?
well I plan to get there around 3:30 so my freestyle 30 min will start then. if we include jeffrey that is a total of 6 hours which takes to 9:30 or 10p which is about when we've run out of steam in years past. But the caveat is that after we've gone once through the rotation once freestyle gives way to 2k7 only and the overhwelming majority of what is played in the half hour needs to be from the final list.
This way we'll have about 3 hours to get the final list assembled and posted. In the past we've worked with a single larger playlist so the DJ need not sit at the computer the whole time, just load up 30 minutes of music and voila.
also, there could be some haggling or bartering if people want to yield some of their time.
I'm confused. I assume I would use my 30 min to play 2k7 top songs from my list, in order to prep for the comp. Freestyle means any song any year? Also, we should send the final list to bw tonight, but rather bring it to the party? FYI I will be there by 4PM at the latest, hopefully 3:30. Sorry for being out of the loop...
Do not send me your list, it will be posted to the blog upon arrival at Clancy's. Have a digital copy in your email or something.
I thought it would be good to divvy up the dj duties, and figured the easiest way was to assign a block of time. In general we don't restrict listening to comp preparation but have some time available for general music appreciation. Now if you know that there is 2k7 stuff that you are especially geeked about but that will not make the comp (i.e. songs from albums that didn't make your top 20) that would fit into the freestyle section. Or if you just want to rock some Mastadon or something that's fine too. I just wanted to put the idea out there that after a while we'll need to get down to bidness so if it ain't gonna contend for the comp we may need to shut it down.
Maybe we just do 30 min freestyle blocks and then shift gears for assembling the comp without having a set schedule?
sounds great. makes sense to me...
I am all over the freestle idea. Let's go for it.
