Missed it in '06
I was just thinking about the whole PB&J thing from last year and how NONE us had it on our lists - anywhere. Oops. I will admit it's lost a bit of its luster with the rampant commercial use - regardless it's still pretty damn good. I was just curios as to what other albums from 2006 you guys either missed or just never got to that would have made your lists? For me, besides PB&J, it was also Fujiya & Miyagi, Transparent Things. I love this album. Such a groovy, head-boppin', smooth-flowin' album. Never heard it until Ankle Injuries hit up on random one day...the rest is history. This leads to the inevitable question: what would the missed picks have bumped? For me: Flaming Lips and either TVOTR or Camera Obscura would have to go.

Thanks for the Air FukStein Picture
I was hoping that pic got lost or otherwise destroyed. But it does highlight my recent infusion of metal into the BI mix...

a note on votes
We've not had any thorough discussion of the method this year because it is remaining the same, by and large. Just rank the top 20 albums of 2007. Anything released in the calendar year or reviewed for the first time on Pitchforkmedia.com, but discounting any re-release or back catalogue material; it should be a new release. I suppose the only wrinkle this year comes in the form of EP's.
I cannot recall in any prior year having both albums and EP's from any band that caused concern. This year though, both Deerhunter and Of Montreal each released both an album and EP that are good enough to make a bit of a stir. My thought on how to handle this for ranking purposes is that we can go one of two ways. Either we all agree ahead of time that the items are to be treated as one release or separate releases, or we each rank as we see fit and then use whatever method was most popular. For example if Deerhunter appears on 4 lists and 3 have combined album/EP for one slot then the points for the fourth persons votes for the two works would be added together. In the event of an even split then those with the higher ranking would determine method. Confused?
Again the goal is to have 20-ish songs for a compilation, do we want 2 from the same band? Doubtful, but we should be in agreement on how to rank the albums so that we get the choice of songs we want for the comp.

BI 9 Dinner
Greetings. I have agreed to bring the main course on 2/2. I'm thinking a slow-cooked meat of some kind: braised beef, pork shoulder, stew, chicken chili, etc. If you have any ideas or preferences please respond. Peace...

Number Nine
Hey there hi there.
If you are reading this it might be of interest to know that the next installment of Burnit will be Saturday February 2nd. Clancy has again agreed to host any time after 3:30.
For my part I haven't ranked a thing, but ideas are starting to form.
Cheers,
Brian
