Pitchfork Music Festival

From the interview between DeRogatis and Ryan Pitchfork it looks to be July 18-20. I had thought I was going to miss again due to a planned trip to NYC in June.

Either keep tabs with pitchfork or watch this space and I will post updates here.

Short list of who I'd like to see in no particular order or timeslot:

Neko Case
Animal Collective
Les Savy Fav
Ghostface Killah
St Vincent
Justice
Common
Caribou

Why did we have to learn the dates from that interview? Yesterday was "the Friday" that the initial lineup was announced in the past two years. Plus last year they at least told us the dates in January. Expect another 2-3 month trickle of the lineup, even though they know the whole thing right now. I expected it to start yesterday but now I guess we'll have to wait another week. I'll be there though. I'll be there with bells on. I feel this years may be huge. Look at the lineup from 2006: The National, Jens Lekman, Man Man, Spoon, CSS, Diplo, Liars, Destroyer, Ted Leo, Mountain Goats, Band of Horses, Matthew Dear, Spank Rock, Yo La Tengo. Today that could fill Grant Park. I'm talking huger than that.

Obviously we've all seen the email be now with the partial line-up and so-far so good although I have no desire to see PE on Friday night. Hip-hop just does not translate live (see GZA from last year). Might try to go 2 days this year, we'll see. As of right now, if it's one day for me it will be Saturday.

With part of the lineup now released I am excited by a few of the bands, underwhelmed by others.

Very excited about Vampire Weekend, Animal Collective and Fleet Foxes,Spiritualized.

Saturday looks to be the best day thus far.

The hype on Vampire Weekend is totally deserving. Love this album, its popularity will not dissuade me. Fleet Foxes is on heavy rotation as well for me.

Not excited about PE. I am not a big rap fan to start with and op-lo's comments are spot on.

I will probably buy a 3 day ticket anyway as I assume there will be at least one deserving band on Friday night.

tickets on sale today, i wonder if they will be as easy to get as they were last year...

Trying to rack my brains about other possibities for Friday night. Oley is correct to guess that there will be other bands worth the price of admission on Friday. And while I am starting to wonder about hip-hop as a live event, it will be interesting to see if PE is able to bring a little more nrg out of the crowd.

I went ahead and purchased a 3 Day Pass. I have wedding party to attend on Saturday night, but should be able to attend earlier shows that day. I'm looking forward to seeing !!! (they rocked at Lolla), M.Ward, etc.!

Brian, thanks again for the reminder.

See you soon,
